Travel Restrictions to Jaffna Lifted

by Sam Clark

Although it won’t make any difference to our clients, as we have always managed to arrange permits without any difficulty, we are very pleased to announce that there are no longer any restrictions on travelling to the north of Sri Lanka.

For the past few months, visitors were required to get a special permission from the authorities to travel, which was primarily aimed at NGO’s and journalists rather than tourists. However, the lifting of this restriction is a great signal from the new Government that relations with the Tamil community in the Jaffna peninsular can improve.

We heartily recommend travel to the north – particularly for second time visitors to Sri Lanka. It’s such a great area and a huge contrast with the rest of the island – both culturally and geographically.
