Wake up to breathtaking views from your tent over the Paro Valley, and gaze at the stars in the evening at Bumdra High Camp. Sitting in a remote meadow above the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the camp may be basic but the natural surroundings and stunning, unimpeded views of snow-capped mountains make the Camp an incredible experience.

After a challenging climb above the Tiger’s Nest, at an altitude of 3,500m and an ascent of 1,000m, guests stay at the camp as part of a one-night trek. An additional challenge can be added to the climb if you’re willing to hike a further 400m to the highest point, hang a prayer flag and take in some of the most captivating views in Bhutan.

The guides and porters ensure your comfort. After some time for relaxation as the sun sets over the Haa region, simple meals are served in the dining tent. You’ll also find a bathroom tent, and hot water bottles and towels are all provided. It may be a basic, traditional tented camp, however it still provides a comfortable bed and warm bedding for chilly nights.

Due to the cold climate and altitude, the accommodation is seasonal and is only open from March to May and from September to early November. Sleeping at a high altitude may not suit everyone, so we recommend completing the hike at the end of your trip when you will be better acclimatised. While the camp is of course extremely simple, the remarkable views and lack of crowds make it a very worthwhile experience during your time in Bhutan.

Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
