Luxury Bhutan
Incredible hotels in amazing locations add the icing on the cake to the one off experience of exploring Bhutan.
Sitting near a 12th-century fortress on a ridge above the Paro Dzong with breathtaking views, Six Senses Paro provides a warm, luxurious mountain retreat. The design has taken inspiration from the rock fortress, with its grand outdoor stone platform area where you can dine or relax. Above is the lounge and dining pavilion with floor to ceiling glass windows to take in the beautiful valley surroundings.
The resort is vast but has only 20 suites and villas, all of which are incredibly spacious and have a warm mountain retreat style with neutral tones, wooden flooring and dark stone feature walls. Bathrooms are nearly a whole other suite in themselves.
The restaurant provides delicious cuisine all day, and in the evening it's pleasant to sit in the bar or lounge area with a drink. A unique feature of this hotel is 'destination dining' - you can dine by the stone ruins and enjoy your meal by candlelight.
This hotel is a top-notch base from which to experience the best of Paro: Tiger’s nest is above, the National Museum of Bhutan is nearby and many short walks and challenging treks are on offer too. After a day of activity unwind in the Spa and Wellness Centre, complete with an indoor swimming pool, yoga room, meditation areas and sauna.
Luxury like the Six Senses does come with a high price tag, but if you’re looking for the ultimate service, facilities and rooms in the area, this is the place to stay.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
