TEA & Happiness IN DARJEELING & BHUTAN
A unique holiday experience that blends Darjeeling’s famous tea plantations with the fascinating Kingdom of Bhutan.
Set in 25 acres of lush, green land overlooking Thimphu city and valley, the Zhiwa Ling Ascent makes for a peaceful place to retreat to. Inspired by traditional Bhutanese farmhouses, the property is the result of a collaboration between an Austrian and Bhutanese architect and the Austrian influence is evident.
Elements of Dzong architecture are blended with modern, polished touches such as the large ceiling to floor glass windows that let in natural light. The restaurant, with its views over the valley, serves seasonal cuisine with fresh organic vegetables from the garden along with quality produce sourced from around the world. The bar lounge offers a cosy space to unwind in, or you may choose to sit in the open air attic with a drink in hand to take in the panoramic views of the valley and mountains. Yoga is on offer in the attic too, and spa therapy sessions are available for those wanting some extra relaxation and rejuvenation.
Rooms are simple but comfortable and are decorated in a neutral colour palette to aid relaxation. They are also designed to make the most of the sunlight and the scenery outside your window. Some offer views of the hotel grounds, local temples and mountains. We recommend the premier rooms because of their space and larger windows.
For those looking for a simple and rejuvenating boutique hideaway on the outskirts of Thimphu and surrounded by Bhutan’s natural beauty, Zhiwa Ling is a great option.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
