Best places for a Gin and Tonic in Asia

by Guest Post & Amelia Curran

Few days are more important in the Experience Travel Group office than World Gin and Tonic Day. When I asked travel experts for their nominations, a buzz of excitement like electricity burst through the room whilst murmured whispers to each other about not doubling up nominations ensued. Safe to say, we’re passionate about this drink and know a good GnT when we taste one. Here’s our guide to the best in Asia.

Lucy: Tea Trails, Sri Lanka

Looking out over the tea fields from your private veranda at Tea Trails in Sri Lanka. Not only is it scenic and serene, but it’s also quite fun to imagine the original tea planters doing the exact same thing 60/70 years ago. They used to drink tonic water in particular as they believed it had anti-malarial qualities…….as if I needed any other excuse to have a gin and tonic!”

Lauren: Raffles, Cambodia

There are so many different Gin and Tonics to choose from (fruity ones, fresh ones and just normal ones etc.) They also have specials with a twist on the classic. The bar itself is beautiful and where lots of historic figures drank including Jackie O.”

Watching life wind down on the river banks as the sun sets and watching life go by on the Mekong Delta. It’s such a vibrant place teaming with life.”

Philly: Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge, Sri Lanka

The views of the tea plantations and UNESCO heritage knuckles Mountain range are beautiful. The music here is also fantastic – remember sipping my drink to George Benson which was lovely.”
