Sri Lanka’s east coast declared safe

by Tom Armstrong

The British Foreign Office (FCO) has further relaxed its travel advice with regards to travel to Sri Lanka’s fascinating eastern provinces. This puts the fabulous beaches at Pasikudah and Kalkudah back on the travel map. Vibrant towns such as Amparai and Batticaloa are also officially considered safe again.

This is a huge step in Sri Lanka’s recovery from decades of war and signals the beginning of a new era for the paradise beaches of the east.

In reality, people have been travelling to the east for some time but this formal relaxation of the travel advice is of huge symbolic value to the entire region. Arugam Bay, on the world’s finest surfing spots, should also benefit hugely from this change. Properties such as Kudakaliya bungalow will again be available for our guests.

We recently explored the east coast and wrote about it on this blog post.
