Beach and Wildlife: The Classic
A two-week exploration of the Borneo ending with pure relaxation on beautiful Gaya Island.
An alternative to our usual Bako National Park tour and highly recommended if you're comfortable with cycling!
You'll depart Kuching in the morning with a stop at a Malay fishing village, where you'll travel by boat to Bako National Park headquarters. Bako National Park, located at the northern tip of the Muara Tebas Peninsula, covers an area of nearly 3,000 hectares of primary forest. Due to the different levels of altitude within the park, the environment visibly changes, from the mangrove forest at sea level to tropical rainforest and up to the scarce vegetation found at the highest part, where you can see numerous types of carnivorous plants. Another distinctive feature of the park are the cliffs of undulating yellow sandstone rising from the South China Sea. Enjoy a comprehensive exploration in search of wildlife and botanical treasures. With some luck, you'll spot the endemic proboscis monkey before you cross the Bako River by sampan boat to Kampong Bako. Cycle through the mangrove jungle, spot wild monkeys and migratory birds and dine with a local family in their traditional Kampong wooden stilt house before returning to Kuching.
