Turtle Island (Selingan), Sandakan

Journey by boat from Sandakan to the famous nesting site of two endangered species of turtles, the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle.  They lay eggs year round so this is a good place to see hatchings all year. 

The two species are threatened because their eggs are known as a delicacy within the region and they're in high demand. Rangers on the island dig up recently laid eggs by wild turtles and protect them in a hatchery until the hatchlings are ready to be released.
