Off The Beaten Track in Borneo
Away from the crowds with some unusual experiences on this in-depth tour of Malaysian Borneo.
Something a little different from the big resorts that tend to be found at Borneo’s beaches, Hibiscus offers a deluxe, 6000ft 3-bed villa and two more simple chalets, all located in Kudat, close to the northernmost tip of Borneo. The 3-bed villa, in particular, is ideal for families or groups of friends. The chalets each have 1 bedroom but have space to accommodate small families with extra bedding.
Of the two chalets, one is perched on a small cliff top with unrivalled views of the South China Sea while the other is a slightly larger treehouse chalet nestled amongst the treetops. “Clifftop” comes with a raised wooden patio and sunbeds, while “Treetops” has its private terrace. Both are simple yet comfortable and have ensuite bathrooms and modern amenities. Hibiscus Villa is a more luxurious affair, with its swimming pool and full staff.
Take advantage of the complementary snorkelling and you may come across a friendly turtle in the pristine waters. Trek or mountain bike in the lush rainforest, explore the villages, traditions and culture of the Rungus people or just relax in the sun in a hammock in this peaceful corner of the island.
Each chalet and villa is distinct from the other so talk to our Borneo experts to decide which is best for you. And please note that there is poor reception and wifi in these parts, although that is perhaps also part of the charm.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
