Bucket List Borneo
Absolutely everything that makes Borneo special combined with unexpected adventures. For travellers who have four weeks to spare.
If you’ve made the journey to lovely Tioman Island, you probably have plans to do nothing at all but relax and appreciate the beautiful natural surroundings. Japamala Resort and Spa is a great place to do just that. Expect five-star service, impressive facilities and a rustic feel in the middle of this tropical paradise.
Just off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Tioman Island can be reached by boat and is well worth the trip. Experience absolute seclusion on the beach, world-class snorkelling, and some seriously beautiful waterfalls in the lush tropical jungle. Tioman Island was filmed for the song ‘Bali Hai’ in the 1958 film South Pacific.
The rooms are known as “sarangs” (nests), beautifully designed Malay kampong villas and chalets. Choose from rooms, houses and villas on the hillside, in the forest, or on the beach. Many of the sarangs feature plunge pools, sun decks, or open-air bathtubs surrounded by trees. All rooms are air-conditioned, and wifi is free throughout the premises.
Come here for absolute tranquillity, it is remote and rustic here. This means there are no phones and the Wifi could be patchy, so you may get frustrated if you need to stay connected. But Japamala is the perfect place for anyone who wants to exit from the information highway and get in touch with a breath-taking tropical paradise instead.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
