This tour of Cambodia’s enchanting south coast is perfect for those coming back to the country for a second time – those who have explored Angkor and want to see what else this beautiful country has to offer. Focusing on the lovely, lazy towns of Kep and Kampot as well as the beaches and rural countryside of the south, this tour is relaxed, diverse and unique.

Highlights include:

  • Explore the organic farm and experience the fantastic ethos at the Smiling Gecko project in the countryside near Phnom Penh
  • Relax or try one of the many activities on offer at the incredible 4 Rivers Floating Lodge
  • Grab lunch at the crab market and soak up the colonial atmosphere in Kep
  • Sit back and unwind on idyllic Koh Rong island

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

DAY 1 DEPART THE UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Cambodia

DAY 2-4 Farmhouse Smiling Gecko

Arrive in the capital city Phnom Penh and transfer to the nearby countryside. Here you'll stay at the wonderful Farmhouse Smiling Gecko - a fantastic place to ease into the holiday. Gecko is a sustainable boutique resort with an organic farm within the grounds. It offers a relaxing place to stay and an experience where you can learn, cook, eat and explore whilst supporting the local community.

Days 5-7 Cardamom Mountains

Together with your guide, you'll begin the road journey into the Cardamom Mountains. Board a small boat and head to Canvas & Orchids - a floating lodge where you'll stay for the next three nights. When you're ready to explore, there are a range of activities and experiences such as a boat trip to nearby waterfalls, a trek through the forest, a visit to local villages and various nature trails.

Day 8-11 Koh Rong Sanloem

Now for some time by the beach on an island just off Sihanoukville, travel here from the Cardamom Mountains and board a boat for the 45-minute crossing to Koh Rong Sanloem.

Enjoy spending a few lazy days on a beautiful beach, swimming, snorkelling and enjoying great food.

Day 12 & 13 Kep & Kampot

Cross back to the mainland and to the sleepy seaside town of Kep, the resort of choice during the French colonial era. During your stay, there is time to explore Kep itself, the surrounding countryside, and neighbouring Kampot.

Kampot is famous for its pepper (some say it's the best in the world), and Kep is renowned for its crab. A meal at the famous crab market is a must in Kep, or take a food tour with a chef in Kampot. Explore Bokor Mountain and its surrounding caves or take it easy and stroll around the faded colonial buildings and the colourful boat yards.

Day 14 & 15 Phnom Penh

Loop to Phnom Penh and spend the last couple of days of your holiday exploring the capital.

Here your guide will reveal stories of the past as you explore the emotive Toul Sleng Museum, formerly used by the Pol Pot regime as a detention centre. This is a moving example of the difficulties faced by Cambodia between 1975 and 1979 but a must-see to truly appreciate how Cambodia suffered during those dark times.

The impressive Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are right by your hotel, so there is plenty of time to explore them too (best in the afternoon light when the crowds have dispersed).

Take a cycle tour of Koh Dach island, where you'll see a different side of the city. A short boat ride across the Mekong will bring you to traditional weaving villages and lanes where monks wearing saffron robes collect morning alms.

Day 16

Depart Phnom Penh for your flight back to the UK

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
