Bong Thom Homestay, Siem Reap

This community-based homestay project is a fantastic way to experience rural life in a beautiful and remote part of the Cambodian countryside. The homestay occupies a large plot of farmland about 26km away from Siem Reap and has two Khmer-style houses on stilts for accommodation with simple decor and basic facilities. Whilst none of the accommodation has air conditioning, the traditional design of the buildings means that it is naturally ventilated and remains cool throughout the day and night.

The homestay has a main house with a large wooden loom where you can watch the staff weaving scarves and table-runners, all of which are sold with profits invested back into the local community. This house also serves as the restaurant, where meals are prepared from fresh, locally sourced food.

There are various activities on offer such as ox-drawn cart and bicycle rides through local villages, you can also learn to cook and farm rice. The home-stay is passionate about educating local children, locals come here to learn basic English skills and guests are more than welcome to join in with the teaching.
