A colonial-style villa on the riverbanks of The Mekong River, Le Relais De Chhjong is a great option when visiting this remote part of northeast Cambodia. Chhlong is a midway stopover point between Phnom Penh (or Siem Reap) and Mondulkiri province, but staying here will allow you to experience a slice of rural Cambodian life in comfort.
The property was initially built in 1916, renovated, and bought back to life some 100 years later in 2017. The ten rooms are spacious with period design features, and each commands a slightly different view - we recommend taking a room with a river view, and the two-bedroom suite is ideal for families. Although it's a small property, there are good facilities, including a pool, a restaurant and a cocktail bar.
There are cycles available to rent, and a bike ride is a great way to spend a few hours exploring the sleepy market town. You're also only around 30 minutes from Kratie, where you can board a boat for Irrawaddy Dolphin spotting on the Mekong River.
Le Relais De Chhlong is one of the best options in this remote region and is highly recommended as a comfortable, atmospheric base when exploring rural Cambodia.
