Tamu, Sihanoukville

Opened in 2014, Tamu has genuinely raised the standard of accommodation offered on Otres, one of Cambodia’s best beaches.  Situated on the outskirts of Sihanoukville, Otres has two large, sweeping bays and Tamu offers chic rooms in a relaxing beachside setting at the furthest corner of ‘Otres 2’.

Tamu has Standard, Superior and Deluxe rooms in a compact, modern and stylish selection of low buildings. Standard rooms are the smallest and offer a choice of either pool access or partial sea view. Superior Rooms are similar in size but offer additional private gardens or balconies. The Deluxe Room is larger still, with a lounge, and a private garden next to the beach.  There is also one Suite Room, located on the first floor with great views of the pool and the sea. Rooms are light and bright, with en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and DVD players.

A small swimming pool provides a welcome alternative to the sea. The hotel has its restaurant and beach lounge serving a range of cuisine and drinks in charming thatched huts. The beach also has plenty of sun loungers for relaxation, and swimming in the sea tends to be good all year round.  Further afield there is a range of excursions on offer including snorkelling, fishing, boat trips, kitesurfing and kayaking.

Tamu is situated at the end of a row of small hotels and guest houses and. As a result, there are plenty of options for eating and drinking along the beach. Otres has traditionally been a backpacker area, but it is slowly developing as more properties spring up. Otres 2, where Tamu is located, is the quieter and more peaceful of the two main beaches.

Otres Beach will appeal to the more adventurous families and couples looking to explore Cambodia’s newer beach destinations, and Tamu is by far the best option available in the area.
