The Columns is an excellent boutique guest house in the heart of Kampot old town. Situated in a row of French colonial buildings, this charming hotel offers small yet comfortable rooms, great food and the perfect location for exploring Kampot.
The hotel was renovated in 2013 and has a charming colonial-style throughout. Original antique floor tiles, furniture and artwork, combine to create a welcoming and charming environment.
17 double and twin rooms are split into Superior and Deluxe categories, with some offering balconies. All have air-conditioning, bright interiors and en-suite showers. As with many buildings from this era, the space available is limited, but the rooms have been designed in a way that maximises usable area without compromising on facilities. All rooms have flat-screen televisions and DVD players, although we doubt you will spend much time in the room itself as the town is so alluring.
The ground floor of The Columns is dedicated to the excellent in-house restaurant and bakery. A varied menu of Cambodian and Western cuisine is offered alongside a range of drinks and fresh juices. Excellent a-la-carte breakfasts are also served here.
The Columns is a great base for exploring Kampot and its surrounding attractions. Whilst undoubtedly small and compact, the hotel more than makes up for this with its character, friendly staff and great food and will appeal to anyone wanting to stay in the old town.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
