The pace of this holiday is laidback, and the locations are rural, allowing for some unique adventures and quality family time. Veer off the tourist trail and enjoy Sri Lanka's natural beauty with plenty of original activities en route to keep everyone occupied. The accommodation is fun and good quality and part of the interactive experience, including a coconut estate, a tea estate, a farm, and beach huts.

  • Stay on a tea estate and exploring waterfalls, villages and the tea factory by foot and cycle
  • Look out for dolphins and whales off the Kalpitiya Peninsula
  • Visit a working farm to learn about Sri Lankan crops and farming techniques with a local family
  • Discover the wonders of the Cultural Triangle including a climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress

DAY 1  depart the UK

Depart the UK for Sri Lanka.

DAYS 2 & 3 Horathapola  explore the coconut estate

Arrive in Colombo, and your driver will meet you for the short transfer to this lovely boutique hotel. It's the perfect place to recover from your flight while you swim in the pool, enjoy tasty food, and explore the estate by ox cart. 

DAY 4-6 ASHBURNHAM ESTATE  MOUNTAINS, WATERFALLS AND TEA

Continue your deviation from the usual tourist trail as you travel to the foothills of the Knuckles mountain range. During your stay, you can choose to do a nature walk with a picnic lunch by a waterfall and a downhill cycle tour through local villages to a tea factory. All of this is tailored to your family so it can be enjoyed at your own pace.  

DAYS 7-9 Jims farm  ORGANIC FARM AND HISTORIC SIGIRIYA

Transfer to Jim's Farm, a unique place to stay in the countryside, midway between the ancient sites of The Cultural Triangle and the city of Kandy. During your stay, there will be plenty of time to see the sights and to enjoy a farming village tour - learn about the exotic crops as you explore the farm, meet the farming families and taste delicious home-cooked food.

Days 10- 15 Kalpitiya  beaches, dolphins & whales 

Travel from Jim's Farm to the Kalpitiya Peninsula. Here you can escape the crowds and stay in beach-hut style accommodation. This is a glorious, off-the-beaten-track place for dolphin watching, watersports and snorkelling. DAY 16 depart Sri Lanka

Transfer to Colombo Airport for your flight home.

Enjoy a full day in Sri Lanka's largest National Park. The park entrance is about an hour and a half from the Mudhouse and although an early start is needed to get the full benefits of the park, it is a wonderful day trip and experience. The Park is home to Leopards, Elephants, Crocodiles and a vast array of birds and other flora and fauna. Unlike the more famous Yala National Park in the south, you will be one of very few tourists in the park and be able to experience a true sense of wilderness.
