Amankora Bumthang, Bumthang Bhutan
Traditional dzong-like architecture, white-washed walls and wooden, sloping roofs make up the wonderful Amankora in the Eastern city of Bumthang.
There are 16 open-plan, spacious rooms across 4 separate wings. Suites are both on the ground and upper floors, with the signature Amankora minimalistic yet opulent style that blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Wooden interiors, a traditional Bukhari burning stove and a king-sized bed are found inside, along with a central, freestanding bathtub. The day beds also make for an ideal spot to sit and relax while looking out over the courtyard, nearby palace and monastery. As for dining options, the hotel restaurant serves tasty traditional Bhutanese and Western cuisine. The lovely courtyard has a firepit to sit by in the evenings and enjoy the live entertainment, connecting guests with the local village life and traditional dance. You can also unwind with a book in the library, use the internet station or relax at the spa where holistic treatments and massages are available.
The property sits adjacent to the 16th Century Wangdichholing Palace in the town of Jakar in the Choekhor Valley. Many pleasant day walks are on offer from the hotel and around the valley to monasteries and temples. The area is also well-known in Bhutan for its deliciously fresh honey, cheese, butter and locally brewed Red Panda beer.
Those looking for an opulent stay in Bumthang, while being located close to attractions in the area will thoroughly enjoy a stay here.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
Lyria was absolutely brilliant! The whole process of booking the holiday could not have been smoother - every query was dealt with promptly and efficiently. The holiday itself was wonderful - totally relaxing - I have never been on a holiday where everything ran like clockwork - absolutely nothing went wrong - transfers were excellent, hotels were brilliant.
