Amankora Gangtey, Gangtey Bhutan, Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey)
Set on the sweeping pine tree-lined slopes of the Phobjikha Valley is the luxurious Amankora Gangtey. Rooms are in a similar style and the hotel offers the same top quality service, food, and facilities as the other Amankora properties around Bhutan (the rooms are identical to those at Amankora Thimphu). With Amankora, you can travel from location to location through the valleys yet always return to a familiar hotel.
This property rests on a forested knoll with panoramic views across the serene valley. The valley is an excellent location for some quite special walks or treks at all times of the year and, in the winter months, it is home to over 300 endangered black-neck cranes who migrate from Tibet. After exploring the valley, it's a treat to indulge in the hotel's array of spa treatments and a traditional hot stone bath.
A real highlight of the property is the outdoor dining on the lawn overlooking the village below and the surrounding forests. The restaurant offers both Bhutanese and Western cuisines where guests can also enjoy the vista from banquettes below the floor to ceiling windows.
Only 8 suites make up the property so it feels, intimate, peaceful and luxurious. Suites have views across the valley, spacious open-plan bedrooms, and bathrooms. They have a calming feel yet cosy feel.
The exquisite views across the valley, high-class service and intimate size of this resort make Amankora Gangtey worth every penny if you’re looking to splurge.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
