Today take a guided morning tour of the sights Thanjavur (Tanjore) - one of the oldest cities in India. It has had a varied history having being ruled by numerous dynasties from the Cholas to the Pandyas to the Thanjavur Nayaks and the British! The ancient city has numerous architecural influences and sights, the most famed being the Brihadeeswara Temple in the centre of the town. It's also the home of Thanjavur painting, a style unique to the region. You can explore at your own pace and it usually takes around 4 hours.
