East to West: Highlights of the Gangetic Plain
An immersive 2-week urban and rural adventure across the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Step away from the tourist trail and into authentic India.
Take an evening sunset river cruise on the Ganges for glorious views of Kolkata by night. You will visit Dakshineswar Hindu temple, which was built in the mid-19th century to honour the goddess Kali and fuses Islamic, Christian and Hindu motifs as a symbol of unity. The gardens of the temple complex are perfectly manicured and have beautiful views over the Hooghly River. Belur Math, on the opposite bank, is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission – a volunteer organisation that provides healthcare, disaster relief, rural management, tribal welfare, education and cultural preservation projects in northern India.
It’s an atmospheric boat ride and one which really puts the city in the context as an historic port city.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively for you.
