A Different Side of Rajasthan
Bespoke Holiday Itinerary / Experience Tour

Info : A Different Side of Rajasthan

An incredible journey through Rajasthan: covering the famous sights and cities of Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and the tigers at Ranthambore. This holiday also veers right away from the beaten track to explore the Rajasthani countryside, wilderness and wildlife at places such as Bundi, Rohet and Raipur.

Rajasthan is a magnificent, mesmerising state, by turns bewildering, complex and spell-binding. We’ve designed this itinerary to take you to places that you wouldn’t otherwise see, without missing what made Rajasthan so famous in the first place.

Highlights include:

  • A very romantic heritage hotel, built 300 years ago into the walls at Bundi,
  • Blissful escapism in the style of the Rajput nobility at the converted hunting lodge of Lakshman Sagar.
  • Exhilarating tiger spotting in Ranthambore National Park.
  • Discovering the world of the Bishnoi people – ‘world’s premier ecologists’ at the wilderness camp at Rohet.
  • The principle cities of Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur.
  • Although the trip packs a great deal in, we think it will feel far more relaxing than conventional Rajasthan itineraries, despite covering more ground. The peaceful countryside has seemingly been unchanged in a thousand years.

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

Day-to-Day Itinerary : A Different Side of Rajasthan

DAY 1 DEPART THE UK

Depart and fly to Delhi.

DAY 2 Delhi

Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel in the heart of New Delhi.

DAY 3 Delhi

In order to get a sense of this sometimes chaotic, sprawling and disorientating city, you'll explore both Old and New Delhi, taking in the main sites, but also building up a sense of where you are: taking in the sights and smells. You’ll travel by vehicle and rickshaw so you can get as close as possible to the action.

DAY 4 Delhi to Ranthambore

An interesting experience this morning as you explore with one of the ex-street kid guides from the Salaam Baalak Trust, as they give you a brilliant, fun tour of the streets where they grew up, tell you eye popping stories. This is a fantastic insight into another side of Delhi and profits from the tour go directly to the trust who help other street kids.

After an excellent local lunch, you will board the train for the journey to Sawai Madhopur where you will meet you chauffeur and private vehicle for the short drive to your hotel at Ranthambore.

Day 5 Ranthambore

Ranthambore is world famous for its tiger population and you’ll experience two safari drives today, early morning and later afternoon. Apart from its tigers, the park is also home to hyenas, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, langurs, macaques, jackals, desert cats, mongoose, desert monitor lizards and the Indian Chameleon, among many others.

Day 6 Ranthambore to Jaipur

Today you'll meet your driver for the drive from Ranthambore to Jaipur, ‘the Pink City’ and capital of Rajasthan. After lunch and time to freshen up at your hotel, you’ll visit the Amber Fort, 12 miles outside of the city itself.

Day 7 Jaipur

Jaipur is a riot of colour and as the capital of Rajasthan, it's a busy place with buzzing spice markets and streets filled with mutil-coloured saris and rampaging rickshaw drivers. Today you’ll spend the day with a local guide exploring the city's Hindu and Mughul heritage and the many palaces and forts, home to intricate and exquisite Indian art and architecture, including the extraordinary Palace of the Winds.

Day 8 Jaipur to Bundi

A 4 hour drive today will take you to Bundi, an often overlooked fort town in central Rajasthan.

In comparison to bustling Jaipur or Jodhpur, Bundi is a breath of fresh air – you can admire the beauty and charisma of the Rajasthan region without the crowds. The town of just over 100,000 inhabitants is greatly admired for its magnificent temples, lovely lakes, obligatory impressive fort and a truly spectacular 17th century palace.

You’ll stay here at a wonderful Heritage property, impossibly romantic – build 300 years ago in the heart of the city walls. What is lacks in modern luxuries, it more than makes up for in character.

Bundi is a great place to explore on your own, as you’ll be staying in the heart of the town, everything is within easy walking distance. Just ambling around here really pays off. If you’d like a guide we can provide one of course.

Day 9 Bundi to Raipur

Another longish drive this morning, deep into the Rajasthani countryside to a village called Raipur. It’s well off the tourist trail and in a lovely natural settling. It’s also the location of one of India’s best hotels, the converted hunting lodge at Lakshman Sagar.

Day 10 Raipur

Soak up the lake views, enjoy the glorious setting and the incredible hotel. If you’re feeling active there is a local village to explore where you can learn about culture and farming techniques. Each cottage faces the lake and comes with a private plunge pool; a perfect place to relax and enjoy the view and the tranquil natural setting!

Day 11 Raipur to Rohet

A drive today towards Jodhpur, your base will be 40 miles outside in a sleepy place called Rohet. It’s a popular traveller stopover and several famous writers are reputed to have found Rohet a great place to let their creative juices flow. It’s also the home of the Bishnoi people and the beautiful Blackbuck antelope.

The wildlife is protected by the Bishnoi themselves and can be viewed on a jeep safari locally.

DAY 12 Rohet AND JODhPUR

Today you will take a privately guided tour of Jodhpur (about 45 minutes' drive from Rohet), the second largest city in Rajasthan and nicknamed the "Blue City” after the many houses in the old city that are painted in various hues of blue. This incredible site is best seen from the imposing Mehrangarh Fort, the largest fort in Rajasthan, which looms over 100m above the city. You will also stroll through the winding alleyways of the Old City and visit the numerous palaces, temples and havelis that are scattered throughout.

Back to Rohet for a relaxing later afternoon in blissful peace.

Day 13 Rohet

A free day today to relax and soak up the surroundings. You might like to take a cooking class here and enjoy the spoils afterwards.

Day 14 Rohet to Udaipur

Today you'll travel with your driver to the most romantic of cities in a state full of them: Udaipur, set on Lake Pichola. You’ll start your stay here with a boat trip across the lake to best view the famous Taj Palace Lake Hotel (you can stay here too if you wish of course).

Day 15 Udaipur

A full day exploring the sights and sounds of Udaipur, including the City Palace complex and the markets and bazaars of the old city.
