A Journey from Hyderabad to Cochin
Journey through Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala with cities, homestays and wildlife experiences; by planes, trains and automobiles.
Staying at Ayisha Manzil feels a bit like stepping back in time as you approach the property. Expect a warm welcome from Mr and Mrs Moosa, well-known for their passionate and generous Indian hospitality. It’s a bit shabby and lost in a time warp, but Ayisha Manzil is certainly characterful. The great homemade meals and world-class cooking school are a special treat. This authentic homestay is right on the Arabian Sea in the Malabar region of Kerala.
The grand Thalassery Fort is right nearby, and other popular sights in the Malabar area include Fort St. Angelo, Muzhuppilangad Beach, and the Pazhassi Dam site. You can visit the fish and spice markets, learn about the traditional art of handloom weaving, or simply enjoy the views of the Arabian Sea: this stretch is not overly crowded and relatively unspoiled. On the property, you can take part in the internationally acclaimed cooking courses, indulge in Ayurvedic treatment, or simply relax on the open terrace.
Four rustic but traditionally decorated bedrooms have attached bathrooms. The style is not for everyone, but it’s certainly nostalgic, if not a bit rough around the edges. The spacious living area, dining area, and terrace are shared, and very pleasant light-filled places in which to relax. Mrs. Moosa’s Malabar cooking is divine, and the cuisine here is well-known for a reason.
Don’t come here for modern luxury and extensive facilities, instead, come for the charm, the delicious home cooked food, and the tradition.
Homestay - What we mean by 'Homestay' is generally a large family owned house, still occupied by at least some members of the family. Interaction with guests is encouraged and is in fact unlikely to be avoided! These places always have bags of character are usually highly charming and can provide a fascinating shortcut towards understanding local life a little better. Facilities can range from the luxurious, to pretty basic and meals are generally taken as a group and served in the local style rather than from a menu. The service is almost always fairly quirky and idiosyncratic. Great fun.
