Birds of South India
Journey through India's South: wildlife encounters, bird watching, incredible scenery and insights into local rural life.
The Banyan Tree Farm stay is a unique opportunity to stay on a working farm in the rural hinterland of Tamil Nadu. Their slogan sums up the property perfectly with nature unlimited and your stay is about reconnecting with the surrounding environment as much as possible and getting to know your hosts.
The homestay is ideally suited to visit the periphery of the Parambikulam tiger reserve, which is way off the tourist trail. You’ll be able to take guided nature walks, go fishing, take cooking classes with the hosts or take one of the bikes to go cycling around the local tracks.
The rooms are simple and situated in the main farmhouse, which is two stories and has lovely large verandas. There are plenty of small sitting areas which makes it feel homely. A welcome pool is great in the hotter months. During meal times you’ll probably eat with other guests and your hosts.
Banyan Tree Farm Stay is an ideal place for those looking to connect with nature in a very rural setting. It may be too simple for some, but with your friendly hosts and unique setting most will be taken in by this well-run homestay.
Homestay - What we mean by 'Homestay' is generally a large family owned house, still occupied by at least some members of the family. Interaction with guests is encouraged and is in fact unlikely to be avoided! These places always have bags of character are usually highly charming and can provide a fascinating shortcut towards understanding local life a little better. Facilities can range from the luxurious, to pretty basic and meals are generally taken as a group and served in the local style rather than from a menu. The service is almost always fairly quirky and idiosyncratic. Great fun.
