The Taj Gateway Pasumalai maybe more international than Experience Travel Groups usual portfolio of hotels, but this is a fantastic, colonial option in soulful Madurai. The hotel sits atop Pasumalai Hill with great views of the city and surrounding hills. The grounds are impressive and are a real haven of peace from the hustle and bustle just outside the hotel, and you may even see one of the resident peacocks!
As expected from an international style hotel, all the facilities and amenities means that many types of guests are catered for including families, holidaymakers and business travellers. The pool may not be winning any design awards but is a welcome addition in the warmer months, and a rare find is a well-equipped gym. The restaurant serves a variety of cuisines with the ever-popular billiards table.
All the 50 bedrooms are colonial, matching the style of the hotel itself and range from functional to some of the finest in Madurai. Experience Travel Group suggest the superior rooms for a bay window and lovely marble bathrooms or splashing out on one of the top suites.
The Taj Gateway Pasumalai may not have the boutique hotel badge, but they do a sterling job at their remit of making every guest have an enjoyable stay regardless of their purpose for visiting. If you are coming to India to get away from international chain hotels, then this might not be the place for you, but we highly recommend it if you like a range of facilities, top-notch service and an unbeatable location.
