Contrasts of Sulawesi, Bali & Lombok
Think terrain, temples and tribes! Fascinating traditions, magnificent scenery: a journey of a lifetime.
A Day In The Life of Bon Jeruk is an excellent community tourism initiative in a rarely visited corner of Lombok.
The morning begins when you meet one of the local women who guide the tours; she’ll accompany you on a two-hour walk around the village, where you’ll see how traditional weaving and cooking are still practised. Take a walk through the paddy fields before you arrive at the open-air lunch setting, where you’ll help make some satay before enjoying the finished product for lunch. There is an optional scenic bicycle ride in the surrounding area after you’ve eaten.
Many “village tours” in Indonesia are quite touristy, but the local people of Bon Jeruk have set up this project with a clear goal and sustainability in mind. They only allow two sets of visitors a day, and the project’s purpose is to help improve the welfare and economy of the rural village and to support and empower the local women, as many of the local men work away from home for long periods. A trip to Bon Jeruk is a fun and authentic way to experience life in Lombok that supports a community, and helps preserve rural lifestyle and traditions.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively for you.
