Day-to-Day Itinerary : Java Deluxe

Depart the UK.

Arrive at Denpasar Airport to be met by your guide. With VIP immigration assistance you will avoid the queues and head straight through passport control. You will be transferred to your beach hotel in the heart of the trendy resort of Seminyak.

You will have a day to relax and enjoy Seminyak with its wide white-sand beach. The beach is complimented with a great selection of restaurants and bars while still retaining a laid back charm. This is a great place for couples who like to be able to get out and about during their beach holiday. It is also in a great location from which to explore the rest of Southern Bali, from the beachside fish restaurants of Jimbaran, to the temple at Ulu Wattu and the sleepy paddy fields and beaches of Canggu.

After a final morning in Seminyak, you will leave Bali and take a short flight to Yogyakarta where you will get your first taste of Java, Indonesia’s most populous island. Located in the centre of the island, Yogyakarta is often considered the cultural heart of Java and by extension, Indonesia. You will be met by your guide and taken to your pool villa that overlooks Borobudur, one of the finest temples in South East Asia, and the surrounding volcanoes and forested plains.

Today you will rise before the sun rises and be taken by your guide to climb Borobudur in order to reach the top in time to witness the majestic sun rise over Mount Merapi and the forested plateau to the east. Built in the 8th century and constructed from two million individual bits of stone, the Buddhist temple is made of 6 square terraces with three circular terraces and 72 small stupas on top. The temple is covered by delicately sculptured reliefs representing the life of Buddha and the Buddhist belief in kharma and reincarnation. After the temple you will have the choice of going back to the hotel to recoup or to spend the afternoon visiting a range of smaller temples in the area.

After breakfast you will head into Yogyakarta, part of the only sultanate remaining in Indonesia. You will visit the Kraton, the traditional home of the sultan and the royal court, and the elaborate two story mansion retreat known as the Water Palace. In the afternoon you will leave the city and visit the magnificent tenth century Hindu temple, Prambanan. While it is not as well restored as Borobudur, it is a magnificent piece of architecture consisting of 8 main and 8 minor temples on a central courtyard, surrounded by 244 small temples in the outer compound. You will stay at the temple until the sun sets, when on a clear day the temple will appear as a silhouette against the backdrop of a sky of bright reds, pale blues and wisps of white clouds.

Today you will move north into the ridge of volcanic mountains that bisect the North and South of Java. You will be staying in Losari but before you are dropped at your hotel you will be taken by your guide to visit Gadung Songo, an eighth century Hindu temple complex devoted to Shiva and Vishnu that is the oldest surviving Hindu temple in Indonesia. It is a collection of nine temples 1000m above sea level and provides a magnificent view that compares favourably with almost all of the spectacular vistas that Java can offer.

DAYS - 8 and 9 – LOSARI

Located in the heart of central Java with panoramic views of the eight surrounding volcanic peaks, you will stay at Mesastila; a working coffee plantation that has been converted into a stylish, traditionally Javanese, wellness retreat. The comfort, style and scenery create an incredibly relaxing and peaceful environment and the new wellness concept provides guests with the opportunity to reinvigorate and remove the stresses and strains of home. For those feeling a little more active, there are a wide range of activities and excursions that can be arranged, many of which are included in the price.

DAYS - 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 KARIMUNJAWA ISLANDS

Today you will make your way to the beautiful archipelago of Karimunjawa, around 80km north of the mainland. A collection of 27 islands, this Robinson Crusoe paradise has many similarities with The Maldives. With a small local fishing population, the islands are part of a marine national park and offer extensive coral reefs and a huge range of snorkelling and dive spots, that will be shared with virtually no one. You will be staying on an idyllic island that is home to a peaceful luxury resort and nothing else.

Leave paradise and fly to the bustling mega city of Jakarta. Arriving in the evening you will head to your quiet and traditional hotel in the heart of the city.

You will have a free day to explore the sights and sounds of Jakarta.

Transfer by vehicle to Jakarta airport for your flight home. Alternatively we can tailor your tour so that you continue on to one of the neighbouring islands.

Enhance your Experience+

Upgrade your hotel in Borobudur to the sublime Amanjiwo, one of our favourite hotels  that combines the highest luxury, with the stunning scenery and culture of this region.

If you are feeling active, you could include a cooking class while in Bali, getting a taste of traditional Balinese cuisine.

Customer Feedback
It was a little disconcerting to be met by a stranger who took our passports and $50 with the instruction of "wait here for me". However, the fact that he then fast-tracked up through customer and immigration was amazing - we felt like rock-stars!
