Tucked away on the western side of Bali in Pekutatan, The Lost Lindenberg is a delightfully small, secluded resort enveloped by dense jungle, which gives way to a near-deserted black sand beach and the vast Indian Ocean.
It’s far from the touristy areas of the island, so if you’re after peace and quiet, this is the place for you. There are just eight guest rooms, built in the style of luxury treehouse towers, all poke just above the tree line and offer ocean views through vast windows. The rooms keep things stylish yet simple, with wooden walls and floors and bathrooms that feel almost part of the outdoors. (There are quite a few steps and stairs connecting everything, so it might not be the best fit for anyone with mobility issues).
Lost Lindenberg is big on communal living and encourages guests to mix and mingle by way of a huge wooden dining table, where Balinese-style plant-based meals are served three times per day. (No worries, though – there are no set meal times, so you can choose to dine as and when you wish – and wherever you prefer). The sun deck and natural pool are also convivial spaces made for socialising, and you may find your fellow guests out and about during the day, either taming the waves at the nearby surf spot of Medewi or exploring the many local temples on one of Lost’s bikes or e-scooters.
This beautiful beach retreat is well located—just an hour and a half from the pier for travellers coming from Java and roughly a 4-5 hour drive from the airport. We’d say that Lost Lindenberg suits all types of travellers—couples, families, and solo adventurers—and is particularly suitable for those seeking Bali’s quieter side who like the idea of making friends with like-minded travellers along the way.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
