Bali Explorer
Explore the beach-fringed island of Bali taking in its culture and natural beauty beyond the well-trodden path.
Secluded, sleek and super stylish, Nirjhara Retreat is a peaceful hideaway in the Tabanan region of Bali. It feels a world away from the bustling tourist areas – you’d never guess it’s just 30 minutes from lively Seminyak, and a straightforward 90-minute drive from Ngurah Rai airport.
Buried deep in nature, Nirjhara is surrounded by lush forests, rivers, waterfalls, and rice paddies and thanks to its small size – only 25 rooms – it never feels busy. The rooms are separated by plants, palm trees, and gardens and come in two very different styles. The Canopy Suites are essentially luxury treehouses and come with a private rooftop deck, perfect for taking in the sweeping views. (Just a heads-up though – they do involve some stairs, so it might not suit everyone). Then there are the pavilions and villas, which range from views of the jungle to riverside scenes, and some come with their own plunge pools. If you’re travelling in a group and looking to push the boat out, then opt for The Residence – a dreamy two-bedroom villa with a private infinity pool.
The Nirjhara suits couples and families looking for a natural, peaceful retreat without travelling too far. We’d recommend staying at least two nights to appreciate the location fully and allow ample time to unwind.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
