A Journey Through Laos
The highlights of Laos brought to life with river journeys, local encounters and insider guides.
A relaxing two-day journey down the Mekong River on board a renovated barge beginning at the northern border town of Huai Xai and ending Luang Prabang or vice versa. Take in the dramatic mountain scenery as you cruise along one of the world’s greatest waterways that runs from the eastern Tibetan plateau, through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Luxuriously fit with a bar, cushioned seats around tables and at the front of the boat, it makes for a comfortable setting to admire life along the Mekong. Staff make the experience all the more pleasurable as they are friendly and attentive, serving you with drinks, snacks and delicious buffet-style Laotian lunches.
You will make a few stops along the way, including a stop at the fascinating Pak Ou Caves of a Thousand Buddhas and a visit to a traditional Laos village where you can experience rural local life and observe their fascinating craftmanship.
Your boat stops overnight in Pak Beng, a rustic little town halfway along your journey where you will stay in the Luang Say Lodge, a charming bungalow resort with stunning views to wake up to over the river.
For a magical, relaxing way to experience one of the world’s most important rivers and take in its spectacular scenery, travelling on the Luang Say boat is an ideal way to begin or end your visit in Laos.
