Shangri Lao Elephant Expedition,
Laos, Luang Prabang and The North
Info : Shangri Lao Elephant Expedition
At Shangri Lao in the protected Huay Sae Valley, near Luang Prabang, you have the chance to spend from a few hours trekking along trails by elephant and by foot, to two day expeditions where you learn the way of the mahouts, bathing the elephants and trekking into the jungle.
The trails follow paths explored by the famous French explorer, Dr. P. Neis in the 19th century and the project aims to preserve natural areas and give former logging elephants an alternative way to live. You’ll have chance to feed and learn about the elephants and enjoy some beautiful scenery.
For those on the 2 day expeditions, Shangri Lao offers some beautiful deluxe tents overlooking the river where the elephants bathe, just ask one of our Laos specialists for more information.
If you are really keen to ride an elephant, this is one of the best places in south east Asia to do so. Just speak to one of our Laos specialists for more information.
I wanted to write to thank you for the enormous effort you put in to creating our itinerary and for managing to salvage a holiday out of the snow debacle for us. It must have been the weekend from hell for you, but somehow, you managed to get us in to Laos and we didn’t feel like we had missed too much of the sights. I don’t know how you pulled it off, there was evidently a lot of extra work involved for you, so flippin’ well done.
