Kuala Kangsar is the Royal capital of Malaysia’s Perak State and has a great deal of history. It was a foothold of the British empire and was also the location for the inaugural meeting of all of Malaysia's sultans. It's an interesting place to stop and explore with your guide en route from Ipoh or The Cameron Highlands towards Penang or Belum National Park. It is also the chosen stopping point for the iconic Eastern and Oriental Express Train as it snakes its way from Bangkok south to Singapore.
Kuala Kangsar boasts perhaps the most beautiful mosque in Malaysia, which was designed in 1917 and features a bold golden ‘onion’ style dome and gold tipped minarets. Inside the mosque, the intricately carved wooden privy screens set against the Islamic designed tiles are a must-see! Other sites in the city include the interesting Royal Museum and Istana Iskandariah – the palace of the state’s Sultan.
If time permits, you can visit a village that specializes in making Labu Sayong– a particular style of gourd-shaped pottery produced from the fine clay of the Kangsar River, which is used to keep water cool. This craft is currently experiencing a resurgence and these elegant water pitchers have found a new home amongst modern Malaysians across the country.
One of the unique experiences we offer in this region is a countryside homestay experience on an island in nearby Lake Cendorah. Guests can experience local life on the lake with family cooking and traditional activities.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively with you.
