A journey down the Malay Peninsula covers some fascinating history, glorious beaches, jungle regions teeming with wildlife and extremely good food from three cultures.

The carefully selected activities are designed to keep the entire family stimulated as well as a feel for the region's culture and history.

Highlights include

  • A fun city safari through Kuala Lumpur - discover exotic fruits and try tasty snacks while getting a sense of how Malaysia came to be so culturally diverse
  • Parting the jungle vines to reach a quiet beach on your search for turtles in Penang National Park, before sitting back to enjoy a banana leaf wrapped picnic lunch
  • Trying out some delicious Dim Sum as you explore Georgetown's night markets and unique graffiti art.
  • Kayaking or paddleboarding out to explore the shimmering waters of Langkawi’s Datai Bay
  • Greeting monkeys and macaques in Langkawi’s ancient rainforest, visiting an orangutan sanctuary en route to Penang and enjoying a thrilling night safari in Singapore

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

Day 1 Depart the UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Days 2-4 Kuala Lumpur

On arrival in Kuala Lumpur, your guide will meet you and accompany you on the private transfer to your hotel. Your accommodation will be in a two bedroom apartment in a hotel in the heart of the city.  Spend your first evening relaxing and recovering from the flight.

During your stay in "KL", your guide will introduce you to Malaysia with a walking safari through the capital. With interactive elements throughout, this tour is ideal for getting all ages engaged in this unique, contrasting city. You’ll visit the vibrant morning markets where the local's bargain for their daily food as your guide explains the colourful spices, weird and wonderful fruits and tasty snacks. You’ll call in at a typical coffee house to sample curry laksa before boarding public transport towards the old part of the city – rich in historic architecture. Wander among the garland makers near the Indian mosque and try traditional sweet tea and Indian snacks.

During your time in KL, you’ll also have time to visit the iconic Petronas Towers and try your hand at cooking some local festive dishes.

Days 5-7 Penang

It only takes an hour to fly from KL to Penang but, what with check-in times and getting to and from the airport at either end; it's not necessarily quicker than travelling by road.  Add in some stops along the way and the road option we've chosen here is more fun too!

You’ll visit a small museum dedicated to the history of indigenous people and call into the Royal town of Kuala Kangsar where the Sultan of Perak resides, before visiting the only Orangutan research facility in Peninsular Malaysia. A short boat ride will take you to see the endangered species roaming free.

On arrival in Penang, you’ll check into a family suite at a boutique hotel in Georgetown. We recommend staying in Georgetown as it's the hub of Penang's culture with a mix of colonial and indigenous architecture, varied street food and a thriving art scene. Your itinerary can be changed to include a beach hotel in Penang, although we’ve allocated plenty of beach time later (in Langkawi). During your stay here your guide will take you on a tour of the town - you’ll get to taste the best Dim Sum and learn a little about the street art too.

You’ll also spend a day with your guide exploring Penang’s National Park, the smallest and youngest of Malaysia’s National Parks. We recommend the 3km trail to Pantai Kerachut, a beautiful white sand beach with a seasonal lake that is home to turtles and is a great place to enjoy a banana leaf wrapped local lunch.

Days 8 -12 Langkawi

It is possible to take a ferry from Penang to Langkawi, but it isn't especially fast and can be a bit choppy, so this time we recommend the flight; it's just 30 minutes from island to island. On arrival transfer to your beach hotel, The Andaman. This hotel is a fantastic option for families; it's located on a beautiful, sweeping white sand bay and is surrounded by an ancient rainforest, so nature alone provides a range of activities to enjoy. Take a guided jungle walk as you look out for monkeys, hornbills and macaques; use kayaks and paddleboards to explore the water, and learn about the fragile offshore ecosystem with the resort's coral conservation project. ]

Days 13 & 14 Singapore

Your flight home is via Singapore, so we suggest spending a day or two there. It's a great city with so much to explore. You’ll stay for two nights in a high standard family-friendly hotel - they even make up the children's room with amenities suitable for their age group. During your stay, we include a guided tour to the Singapore Night Safari - a thrilling 'nocturnal' zoo where, after dark, a guided tram leads you through eight geographical regions modelled on the habitats of the African savannah, Himalayan foothills and jungles of Southeast Asia.

The rest of the time is free to enjoy the pool and facilities and perhaps do some last minute shopping before flying home.  If you prefer, we can alter the itinerary to include additional activities. From the Universal Studios theme park to cultural city walks, Singapore has something for everyone.

Day 15 Fly Home

Depart Singapore for your flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, two-week tip-inclusive holidays start from roughly £4,000 per adult. We offer substantial child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
