Info : Armenian Street Hermitage
A superbly located heritage home close to the major UNESCO sites of George Town, Penang. With well-appointed rooms incorporating local history, it makes for a very comfortable stay for couples and families.
Penang is a famous port town with fantastic street food, art and culture. From old Chinese temples, to street art tours, to Indian food outlets serving delicious roti Chenai and flamboyant teh tarik (hot milk tea) there is so much to see and do.
The Armenian Street Hermitage offers a characterful and comfortable stay. Whilst not luxurious, it’s a good place to base yourself whilst exploring the various delights of the city. With 92 ensuite bedrooms, for couples and family groups, the hotel is not so big that you feel overwhelmed and small enough to retain a relaxed anonymity.
There is no swimming pool at this hotel but those really interested in the city’s culture may not mind.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
Our guides in Yangon, Bagan, and Kalaw / Lake Inle were wonderful. They struck the right balance of explaining the history and importance of the sights we were seeing without over-doing it, they knew where to get the best view/experience at what time and could rearrange experiences so we got the most out of them. A standout was our guide in Kalaw / trek / Lake Inle. He was as keen to learn from us as he was to teach us, he bent over backwards to make sure we were happy and comfortable, and he was just plain fun too!
