Armenian Street Hermitage, Penang Malaysia, Western Malaysia
A superbly located heritage home close to the major UNESCO sites of George Town, Penang. With well-appointed rooms incorporating local history, it makes for a very comfortable stay for couples and families.
Penang is a famous port town with fantastic street food, art and culture. From old Chinese temples, to street art tours, to Indian food outlets serving delicious roti Chenai and flamboyant teh tarik (hot milk tea) there is so much to see and do.
The Armenian Street Hermitage offers a characterful and comfortable stay. Whilst not luxurious, it’s a good place to base yourself whilst exploring the various delights of the city. With 92 ensuite bedrooms, for couples and family groups, the hotel is not so big that you feel overwhelmed and small enough to retain a relaxed anonymity.
There is no swimming pool at this hotel but those really interested in the city’s culture may not mind.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
All guides were very good, spoke good english and were very knowledgeable. The logistics all worked extremely well, and all the drivers, boatmen etc did a good job. We also found the guides were happy to talk to us on a wide range of issues including politics!
