Belum Rainforest

This ancient and very beautiful rainforest is a jewel in Peninsula Malaysia's crown.  Covered in virgin green jungle and teeming with flora and fauna, this is a place where you can stand directly under waterfalls, follow winding trails through acres of untouched forest, or look out at the vast surface of the grand Tasik Temenggor lake towards the thousands of tiny islands.

Spot rare and precious endangered creatures: natives of the Belum Forest Reserve include the threatened Malaysian tiger, rhinoceroses, tapir, white-handed gibbons, and sun bears, as well as hundreds of colourful bird species and all ten hornbill species native to Malaysia. Flora enthusiasts travel to the Belum Rainforest for a glimpse of the elusive and very beautiful Rafflesia.

Accessible by boat or road, most visitors arrive to this area via the Pulau Banding boat jetty, alternatively, it's possible to come by bus and taxi or private car. It’s remote, but that’s what makes this region so special: the undisturbed tranquillity and untouched natural beauty. Travel by boat, kayak, or canoe across the lake and listen to nothing but the sounds of forest birds. Visit an Orang Asli village and commune with a local tribe; enjoy their friendly hospitality and learn a bit about their daily life.
