Road to Mandalay, The Irrawaddy River Myanmar, Rivers
Info : Road to Mandalay
Belmond's ‘Road to Mandalay’ river boat offers a range of 3-5 day short journeys. The expedition's are a well-paced and comfortable way to get a taste of local life along the Irrawaddy River between Mandalay and Bagan. Belmond are a reliable choice, they always deliver classic style, fine service and high quality as seen in their fine hotels and trains (like the famous Orient Express).
The 56 air-conditioned, ensuite cabins on "The Road To Mandalay" are great quality and furnished in a classic style. The vessel has a canopied observation lounge and on-deck swimming pool the cruise so you can absorb life on the river without compromising on luxury.
The boat visits rural off-the-beaten track villages that evoke a bygone era and allow you a glimpse of rural life. The top deck also provides a vantage point over the ancient pagodas dotted along the banks of the Irrawaddy.
Whilst the relatively large number of passengers on-board may not suit everyone, the advantage to this is that there is always opportunities to socialise with fellow travel enthusiasts over a cocktail.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.

We enjoyed a 3 week trip exploring both the well known places as well as the less developed areas. We also balanced the trip with a variety of walks and activities as well as time for several half day breaks to relax. The Myanmar people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The colours of the country are outstanding, wonderful dusty landscapes with rice fields and palm trees as well as so many amazing pagodas rich in colour and symbolism. Our best parts were the less well known places but Lake Inle and Bagan are must do places and are still not overrun by tourists. Experience Travel Group tailored a trip for our needs and knew how to do so and suggest appropriate hotels and means of travel.
