RV Yandabo takes you on an intrepid adventure on the Salween (Thandlwin) River between Hpa An and Mawlamwine over three days. The cruise either begins in Hpa-An and ends in Mawlamyine or vice versa.
If departing from Hpa-An the cruise begins in the late afternoon, just in time for a sundowner. Wake up and disembark to explore a typical local village surrounded by lush Burmese jungle. Then you’ll continue on to Mottama: a seaside trade hub with its roots in the 13th century Hanthawaddy Kingdom. You’ll continue on to Bilugyun (Ogre) Island, a remote traditional paradise with gorgeous green surroundings: lily ponds, coconut trees, pastures and small villages. Take in the wonderful scenery and visit the workshops to admire wonderful handicrafts: bamboo hats, walking sticks, wooden musical instruments, coconut products and more. The tour ends in Mawlamyine, full of gleaming pagodas, monasteries, churches, Buddhas and mosques.
The boat has fifteen cabins on two decks: the main deck and the promenade deck. Catering for 30 passengers, you can expect wonderful Burmese, Asian and Western meals prepared by a top-notch chef. This cruise is a great way to see a remote part of Myanmar that most tourists miss.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
