Kyaiktiyo (more commonly known as the Golden Rock) is essentially a gilded boulder that appears to defy physics, balancing precariously on the side of a cliff. Its a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists and as such is a fascinating place to visit.
Golden Rock can be visited as a day trip from Yangon or Bago or you could choose to stay overnight. To explore the rock itself you'll take a truck halfway up the mountain and continue by foot. You’ll enjoy stunning mountain scenery and the chance to chat with fellow climbers and once you reach the top, you can witness what is said to be one of Buddha’s hairs, precisely placed. If you’re lucky enough to be there when the weather is clear, the views at sunset are wonderful.
