Your guide will lead you to the Mingun ruins by private boat along the mighty Irrawaddy river. While travelling, take in the wonderful rural scenery and observe river life as it goes by. King Bodawpaya is responsible for the Mantara Gyi Pagoda (Mingun) ruins, constructed at the turn of the 19th century but never completed. The concept was for a jaw-dropping height of 150 metres, but the King’s ambition was never realised in its entirety and the mission was abandoned. Visitors are welcome to climb the pagoda, and the views from the top are well worth the effort. The Mingun Bell next door is equally immense in stature, measuring in at over 90 metric tonnes of copper. Also on-site, the stark white Hsinbyume Pagoda turns heads with its stunning design and mythical peculiarities.
