Myanmar Highlights with 3 day Trek
As well as the main sites, this holiday includes a wonderful 3 day trekking experience from Kalaw to Lake Inle.
This three-day, two-night trek brings you from the old colonial hill station of Kalaw through the rolling hills of Shan state to the waters of Lake Inle.
On day one, pass through the lush hilly scenery to stop off at two Palaung tribe villages, where people live in wide open long houses and wear brightly-coloured traditional dress. After your full day trekking, stop at a Da-Nu tribe village where you will stay overnight in the local village monastery, an experience sure to give you a truly unique perspective on local culture.
On day two, after a local Shan-style breakfast, continue your trek through Hta-Nought, Da-Nu and Taung Yoe hilltribe villages. You'll see local agriculture and fruit farming en route, before arriving at Wah Gyi Maung village of the Taung Yoe tribe for a second night in the village monastery.
On your final day’s trekking, pass through the peaceful setting of green hills dotted with golden pagodas and local houses, affording you panoramic views over the peaceful countryside until you descend through a gorge down to the dark expanse of the lake.
Each day's trek will average around 6 to 7 hours and requires a fair degree of physical fitness. Accommodation at the village monasteries is understandably very simple, in accordance with local life.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively with you.

The train from Kalaw to Shwe Nuang for Lake Inle was tremendous fun. The car actually follows the train so that you can get off at an intermediate station and continue by car if you get tired of the slow speed and the rough ride but I would urge anyone to take the whole trip.
