Explore some of Myanmar and Thailand's most captivating cultural sights without rushing around, followed by a relaxing stay in a fantastic hotel on one of our favourite hidden Thai Islands.

This holiday is brilliant for anyone wanting to explore the sights with ease, enjoying interactive experiences and high-quality hotels. It is slow paced to suit families who like to do something a little different or couples who would like to see the highlights of these two beautiful countries.

Highlights include:

  • Rattling around Yangon on the circle train, a great way to see the city from a local perspective
  • Explore the remarkable temples of Bagan by bicycle or on foot
  • Discover the cuisine of Chiang Mai on an evening food tour, your guide will introduce kanom jin (rice noodles with curry soup), kanom krok (Thai coconut pudding) and more
  • Marvel at the picture-postcard views out to the "hong" islands from your beach-side hammock on Koh Yao Noi

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style, and expectations. Find out about our exclusive ‘Journey Planner’ here.

Day 1 Depart The UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Yangon.

Day 2-4 Yangon   Exploring the city

Arrive in Yangon and spend the first evening settling in to your hotel. Spend two days exploring the city with your guide: walk along the Yangon River, through the harbour area, and you’ll discover colonial architecture along Pansodan Street followed by a rickshaw ride and a visit to a local market. The famous Shwedagon Pagoda is a must-see, the recognisable golden stupa dominates Yangon’s skyline, and sunset is a great time to visit.

Day 5 & 6  Bagan  Cycling Around the Temples

It's a short flight to Bagan where, during your stay, you’ll explore the pagodas of the extraordinary archaeological area on a guided bicycle tour (or by car if you prefer). You’ll take a horse and cart ride to a quiet spot for sunset, and after dark, you’ll explore one of the fascinating temples after most tourists have left.

DAY 7 Yandabo  Sailing along the IRRAWADDY

Today you’ll board a small boat for the leisurely boat journey towards the village of Yandabo. Here you’ll stay in a cosy hotel on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Yandabo is a great place to get a flavour of village life along the Irrawaddy, one of the most important rivers in Myanmar.  Pottery is a popular local craft and water buffalo harvest the land in this sleepy rural area.

Day 8 & 9 Mandalay   Discovering the famous sights

Back in your boat, you’ll continue the journey upstream to Mandalay. Simply sit back and absorb the fantastic scenery. When you get to Mandalay, there will time to explore the ancient cities, the glittering pagodas and bustling markets. Your guide will transport you to famous sites such as Ava and U Bein Bridge, with a few clever tricks to dodge the busiest times of the day.

Day 10-12 Chiang Mai   Thai Culture, Tradition and Elephants

A short evening flight (just over an hour) will take you from Mandalay directly to Chiang Mai in Thailand.

During your stay, you’ll have the chance to explore the city sights with our Chiang Mai signature tour. Taking in the surrounding countryside, tasting the local street food and observing Buddhist monks collecting their alms at dawn, you’ll get a strong sense of Thai culture and tradition. During your stay, you’ll also visit the nearby Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary for rescued elephants.

Day 13- 17  Koyao Island Resort  Relaxing in paradise

A domestic flight will take you to Phuket, and it's a short transfer by boat, away from the typical tourist beaches, to Koyao Island Resort. Couples can choose from one of 11 beach villas, and there is a spacious family beach villa for larger groups. The location is superb with panoramic views of the ocean and the nearby Hong Islands; a perfect place to relax and enjoy paradise or to enjoy canoeing, swimming, mountain biking and of course some delicious Thai food.

Day 18 Fly Home

Its a short boat ride back to Phuket for your international flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
