Info : Pine Hill
A simple, good quality hotel in the hills surrounding Kalaw with mock-Tudor décor and nice open spaces. The 32 rooms are split into two categories, superior and deluxe, and whilst all simply furnished with basic facilities, they are clean and comfortable with a pleasant local feel. Bathrooms are spacious with standard fittings and amenities. Dinner taken outside on the lawn is a lovely treat and perfect for watching the sun dip below the foothills and countryside. The whole hotel has a laid-back atmosphere that fits well with lovely, lazy hill station town and is one of the best options in town for a great base to explore the mountains around Kalaw or simply for a stopover.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
Our guides in Yangon, Bagan, and Kalaw / Lake Inle were wonderful. They struck the right balance of explaining the history and importance of the sights we were seeing without over-doing it, they knew where to get the best view/experience at what time and could rearrange experiences so we got the most out of them. A standout was our guide in Kalaw / trek / Lake Inle. He was as keen to learn from us as he was to teach us, he bent over backwards to make sure we were happy and comfortable, and he was just plain fun too!
