A cosy, colonial-style hotel with bags of local charm, the Savoy Hotel in Yangon has a tangible atmosphere of former grandeur and historic flair. The hotel itself is small, but it has a fantastic central swimming pool and a good range of facilities including massage and beauty treatments and the charming “Captain’s Bar”. Rooms are split into two categories: deluxe and executive suites, both of which are stylish in design and quite spacious, with the suites being slightly larger. The quality of finish may not be as slick and high-class as other 5-star boutique hotels in the rest of Southeast Asia, but the Savoy does still have style, good levels of comfort and a warm welcome.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of Yangon, so whilst still in a bustling local neighbourhood, you are slightly removed from the busy central area. Once you step off the street and into the hotel, you will instantly be enveloped in an oasis of calm as the clever design of the hotel with rooms further away from the road means there is a peaceful ambience here, making the Savoy a good quality option for a few days of peace at the end of a busy holiday in Burma.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
