Get a real sense of Bedouin life at the Safari Desert camp, which offers authentically styled huts, fitted with all the usual comforts. Spend your time admiring the beauty of the surrounding dunes, going on camel rides, taking part in adventurous activities and star gazing in the evenings.
Head up to the top of the sand dunes for the ultimate sunset experience, or perhaps even ride a camel along them instead! Delicious and authentic Omani fare is served in the form of a buffet in the communal ‘Majilis’ tent along with mint tea. Afterwards, we recommend sitting down to unwind outside and admire the clear starry sky. A private ‘wild camp’ can be set up away from the main campsite as well, with comfortable canvas tents. Staff will still look after you and will bring your meals to your more secluded camp.
The huts are decorated with colourful textiles and patterned carpets, giving an authentic and cosy feel. Bathrooms are open air, and while they aren’t overly luxurious, they are functional and add a unique touch. Keep in mind that there is no air conditioning, so it can be warm in the summer months.
While it may not appeal to all travel styles, Safari Desert offers a memorable, authentic desert camp experience.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
