Morning Birdwatching Walk at the Mudhouse, Anamaduwa

Thanks to its rural location and design, intertwined with nature, you're likely to encounter a wide variety of wildlife during your stay at the Mudhouse. Frogs and turtles inhabit the lakes and waterways on the property, while lizards, deer, and monkeys are not uncommon sights on the land. However, it's the birdlife on the property which will pique many guests' interests.

The Mudhouse is home to around 130 species of birds throughout the year, including endemic species and migratory birds drawn to the area by its abundant lakes and forests. Depending on what time of year you visit, you may see Kingfishers, Purple Swamp Hens, Egrets, Indian Pittas, Jungle Fowl, Pelicans, and many other diverse species on the property.

Although it's possible to see many of these species while relaxing by the lake, an early morning walk with the resident naturalist is a must for any budding birders. The naturalist’s extensive knowledge of local birds and their incredible ability to spot birds that seem invisible to the untrained eye is invaluable. To ensure you don’t miss any of the action, a spotter will accompany you on the walk with a high-powered telescope and tripod to view the birds, however far away they may be.
