Trekking The Knuckles from Eagles Crest, Knuckles Mt. Range

While staying at the cosy Eagles Crest lodge, we'd highly recommend taking at least one or two treks into the stunning countryside of the Knuckles Mountain Range.

The proper name for the mountains is the Dumbara Mountain Range, but they are also frequently referred to as 'The Knuckles' thanks to a series of five peaks that resemble a clenched fist against the skyline. The highest peak is 1900 metres above sea level.

Although these are no small mountains, the treks and hikes range from short, easygoing walks on paved roads to steep clambers through more rugged forest and everything in between. The range of the mountains' elevation combined with the tropical climate of Sri Lanka means there are five distinct microclimates at different altitudes, which also play a part in deciding which treks to take depending on which time of year you visit. Your expert local guide will be able to discuss and help work out which trek will be right for you when you arrive and accompany you on the treks to lead the way and point out landmarks and wildlife as you walk.
