Yudaganawa, an unfinished stupa dating back to the 2nd Century AD provides real insight into the ancient southern Kingdom of Ruhuna.
With a circumference of 1038ft, Yudaganawa Stupa is said to have been started and unfinished by three separate kings, including King Tissa and King Dutugemunu, all of whom began work on it only to be interrupted by the onslaught of war.
The stupa is a nice spot to wander around whilst digesting your lunch from nearby Welawaya. It is a great spot to include when visiting Maligawila or Buduruwagala Standing Buddha.
