This is a two-week family-friendly exploration of Sri Lanka, designed specifically for those travelling in July and August. At this time of year the east coast (as opposed to the south coast) is at its prime with great weather and calm seas (from May to September).

Travel at a leisurely pace, with stays in some beautiful boutique accommodation each selected for it's quality family offering (whether that's rooms, activities or general welcome).

Your guide will be on hand along the way to bring the destinations to life and ensure you get the most out of your holiday.

Highlights include:

  • Stay in boutique, family-friendly accommodation that's not only comfortable but ideally located for exploring
  • Ease gently into your holiday by exploring the hill country's tea plantations and taking a scenic train ride
  • Unique Safari experience in Gal Oya where you'll spot a beautiful array of wildlife without the tourist crowds
  • Discover village life in the countryside around the Cultural Triangle on our signature off-the-beaten-track experience
  • Five nights of relaxing beach-time in a unique resort at one of the east coast’s best beach destinations.
  • An exciting seaplane ride that reduces road-travel time and provides wonderful aerial views

As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We can tailor it completely to suit your budget, pace and style. To find out more about how this suggested itinerary could inspire your own holiday, contact us today.

DAY 1  DEPART UK

Depart the UK on your flight to Colombo.

DAYS 2 - 4  HILL COUNTRY/KANDY

On arrival, you will be met by your chauffeur-guide and transferred directly to the hills. Begin your holiday with a three-night stay at a family-run estate house in the lush tea plantations. Spend your time exploring the beautiful countryside on bike trails and splashing around in the pool. You’re not too far from Kandy, Sri Lanka’s second city, so there's the opportunity to make a day trip with your guide and take a scenic train ride en route.

DAYS 5 -7 CULTURAL TRIANGLE

Your next stop is the Cultural Triangle, where you have three days to explore its fascinating ancient cities, interact with locals and experience rural Sri Lankan life. Your guide will take you on a cycling tour around the backroads of Polonnaruwa. You’ll get to climb up the magnificent Sigiriya rock fortress before the crowds arrive and explore villages in the surrounding countryside, learning a little about the people and enjoying some of their food and warm hospitality.

Days 8 & 9 Gal Oya National Park

Next, head to the country’s best-kept wildlife secret, Gal Oya National Park for a two-night stay at the beautifully designed eco-lodge. Home to Sri Lanka’s largest lake, you can encounter all manner of wildlife on a boat safari and by foot, including Asian elephants and a vast array of birdlife, far away from other tourists.

DAYS 10 - 14  kalKUDAH (east coast  beach)

Travel east to spend five-nights relaxing on the sweeping beaches of Kalkudah (nr Passekudah), one of the most idyllic beach destinations in Sri Lanka with a bay that experiences particularly pleasant weather at this time of year. Stay in a comfortable, unique property right on the beach, ideal for families wanting easy access to the ocean. The sea here is clear and calm, great for swimming, snorkelling and watersports.

DAY 15  Colombo

On your last full day in Sri Lanka, you’ll board a seaplane for an exciting and scenic flight across the island to Colombo. Spend your last night in a historic hotel that offers a great location and spacious family suites.

DAY 16  FLY HOME

Your driver will transfer you to Colombo airport for your flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
