This is a relaxed round tour taking in the best of Sri Lanka, staying in quality, intimate and characterful hotels.

The tour begins at a working coconut estate just north of Colombo and takes you to the Cultural Triangle, towards Kandy and the Hill Country, visiting cultural monuments, botanical gardens and tea plantations along the way. After all of that history and culture, you will head down to the south coast for a well earned rest by the beach, but not before enjoying an exciting wildlife safari.

Highlights include

  • The Cultural Triangle - climb Sigiriya Rock, explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and the cave temples at Dambulla.
  • Wildlife spotting in Uda Walawe National Park - elephants, sambar, maybe even leopards. 
  • A train journey from Nany Oya to Haputale - one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.
  • Relax or explore Galle and the surrounding countryside from your beachfront base in Mirissa.

Day-to-Day Itinerary : Essential Sri Lanka - Deluxe


Depart the UK for Colombo, Sri Lanka.

DAYs 2 & 3 HORATHAPOLA    relax on a coconut estate

On arrival you will meet your driver and be taken to Horathapola Coconut Estate, where you will stay for two nights on a half board basis. A small and beautiful hotel in a peaceful and serene location, this is one the best places imaginable to relax into your holiday. 

DAYS 4 & 5 CULTURAL TRIANGLE  explore the ancient sites

From Horothapola, you will transfer to Lake Lodge Kandalama, an ideal base for exploring the wonderful and varied sights of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle area. Situated on the edge of Kandalama Lake, this is a lovely retreat after a day of sightseeing!

As well as exploring the ancient ruins and monuments of the Cultural Triangle, you will also get the opportunity to go on a safari in Minneriya National Park (seasonal).

 DAYS 6 & 7 KANDY  gardens, markets and temples

The next two nights will be spent in Kandy. Here you can visit the famous Temple of the Tooth, relax at the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, play Golf at the Victoria Golf Course, explore the vibrant street markets and stroll around the Kandy Lake. Kandy has seduced generations of visitors and continues to charm. Its rich history survives to this day.

Days 8 & 9 the hill country  tea, views and waterfalls

Travel by car and train through Sri Lanka's mountainous interior to a wonderful tea estate bungalow in the hills. Experience the fresh mountain air of the southern hill country said by locals to be the best in Sri Lanka. Enjoy the stunning views and excellent service from Kelburne Estate Cottages, Haputale for two nights on a half board basis.

Walk to Liptons Seat at Dambetenna and take in the stunning views of the Haputale Mountain region.

DAYs 10 & 11 Uda walawe NATIONAL PARK   nature & wildlife 

Dropping out of the hills, head to Uda Walawe for an exciting safari experience. In the company of a local safari guide and park tracker, you’ll travel by 4WD jeep in search of some of the largest gatherings of elephants in the country, as well as wild pig, sambar and Sri Lankan leopards.

DAYS 12 - 14 THE GALLE COAST  relax or explore the coast

Your chauffeur guide will drop you at your beachside resort.  There is plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beach setting but you're close enough to Galle to see the sights and the sounds. During your stay you'll have chance to explore the bustling fish market, take a cookery class and explore the ramparts of historic Galle Fort. 

DAY 15 COLOMBO  visit the colonial relics

This morning your chauffeur guide will return to transfer you to Colombo and your final hotel. In the afternoon, explore the streets of Colombo with your personal guide on a Colombo City Walk, visiting the colonial relics hidden in amongst the modern buildings. You will end up on the Galle Face Green, a brilliant spot to observe the locals and to watch the sun setting over the ocean. 


You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport to catch your return flight to London.
