Travel slowly through the south of Sri Lanka. This itinerary takes in some of the most beautiful locations in the country staying in the best hotels.

Highlights include

  • A stay at Amanwella just outside of Tangalle. A luxury retreat located on one of Sri Lanka's best beaches
  • The chance to see elephants, leopards, and birdlife in Yala National Park on safari with your naturalist guide
  • Explore the charming UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort, while staying in the stunning Amangalla hotel – a former Dutch colonial mansion
  • Sitting back with a freshly picked cup of tea with a view of the surrounding mountains from your planters bungalow in the hills
  • Private chauffeur-guide throughout

As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We can tailor it completely to suit your budget, pace and style. To find out more about how this suggested itinerary could inspire your holiday, get in touch with us today.

Day 1 Depart The Uk

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Sri Lanka.

Days  2 - 4 Galle

On arrival, your private chauffeur-guide will meet you. You’ll travel south to your hotel, Amangalla in the charming UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort. You don’t need to step too far away from the hotel to feel immersed in the historic location and experiences will be tailored to you. Take a guided walk of the fort with a local expert or enjoy a cookery class. In the hotel itself, you can relax around the pool or sit back and enjoy the top-notch service with added extras such as complimentary afternoon tea.

Days 5-7 Haputale

Head into the Hill Country with your chauffeur-guide, the scenery and climate provide an excellent contrast to the coast. During your time in the hills, you’ll stay in a suite in a lovingly restored planter's bungalow. The property has an inviting pool, fantastic views and excellent walking opportunities nearby. Spend your time exploring the tea-clad region and relaxing around the cottage.

Days  8 & 9 Yala National Park

With your guide, you’ll travel towards Yala National Park for a two-night stay. Here you’ll venture into the less explored parts of the park on safari drives with a local naturalist looking for birdlife and game such as leopards, elephants, buffalos, and wild boar.

There will be a chance to relax back at camp too; you can soak up the tranquil surroundings. There are plenty of activities, such as kayaking, short walks, and even a Sri Lankan cookery lesson. In the evenings, expect a beautiful lit campsite with a roaring campfire.

Days 10 -13 Tangalle

Transfer with your guide back around the coast to Tangalle where you’ll check-in at Amanwella for four nights. Swim in the sea, feel the sand between your toes, treat yourself in the spa or unwind in your beach paradise under the shade of a palm tree.

Day 14 Colombo

Travel to Colombo this morning. In the afternoon, you can enjoy an informative walking tour around Colombo in the company of a passionate and engaging local guide who will open up the cultural heart of the city to you. This unique excursion provides a real insight into the influences, traditions, and cultures that have shaped and formed the Sri Lankan capital over the intervening centuries.

Day 15 Fly Home

Depart Colombo for your flight back to the UK.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, our holidays typically cost between £4,000 and £6,000 per adult depending on trip length and time of year as well as the hotels and flights involved. We offer child and seasonal discounts. You can read our ultimate guide to holiday costs in Asia for more in-depth information.
