Holidays in Sri Lanka from May to September are one of the travel industry’s best kept secrets – the weather is actually superb and a well-crafted itinerary will mean you’ll have plenty of sunshine. This itinerary will show you the main highlights of Sri Lanka as well as something a little different with our unique cultural experiences. You’ll also have the chance to explore the beautiful and largely undiscovered eastern coast of the country before flying off to the Maldives to relax in style for four nights.

Highlights include:

  • Climb Sigiriya Rock and take a bullock cart ride through the surrounding countryside
  • Spot Asian elephants at one of Sri Lanka’s national parks
  • Follow pilgrims and worshippers as they pray at the Temple of the Tooth
  • Relax on a paradise island in the Maldives

Day-to-Day Itinerary : Sri Lanka and the Maldives - May to September

Day 1 – Depart the UK

Leave the UK.

Day 2 – Horathapola

Your private guide will meet you when you arrive at Colombo and transfer you to your first hotel – the gorgeous Horathapola Coconut Estate.

Day 3 – Cultural Triangle

Today you will drive through the countryside to the region known as the Cultural Triangle. You’ll be staying at the beautiful Ulagalla Resort in a naturally stunning and peaceful location.  

Day 4 – Cultural Triangle

With your private guide, you will first visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and explore the ruins and ancient art work. After lunch you will then visit one of Sri Lanka’s national parks to take in the beautiful scenery and see plenty of wildlife – including Sri Lankan elephants.

Day 5 – Cultural Triangle

Rise early this morning and climb the mysterious Sigiriya Rock and marvel at the rock fortress built on top. The views over the Sri Lankan countryside from here are simply breath taking. After the climb you will take a 20 minute bullock cart through the paddy fields surrounding Sigiriya and visit a small, local village.

Day 6 – Jungle Beach

Drive from the Cultural Triangle to the beautiful and largely undiscovered beach destination of Kuchchaveli on Sri Lanka’s east coast. The weather at this time of year is fantastic on the east coast, and you will be staying in the stunning Jungle Beach resort. It has an eco-Robinson Crusoe style that is sometimes referred to as like staying in a luxurious tree house!

Days 7, 8 and 9 – Jungle Beach

Spend three days at leisure at Jungle Beach, relaxing on the beach, by the pool or exploring the surrounding jungle.

Drive from the Cultural Triangle to Kegalle, a town close to Kandy and the lush tea country region. You’ll check in to Rosyth Estate and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 10 – Kandy

Today you will drive through stunning natural scenery to Kandy, the capital of the last Sinhalese Kingdom. You can stop en route at local villages and sites of beauty to take pictures to break up this long yet enchanting journey.

Day 11 – Kandy

Take a full day to explore Kandy, including a walk through the Royal Botanical gardens, Garrison Cemetery and St. Paul’s Church. After lunch walk through the alleys and the streets around the lake to get a closer look at the lives of the locals and the beauty of Kandy and its famous local crafts.

Day 12 - Fly to the Maldives

Transfer to the airport and take a short flight to Male, the capital city of the Maldives. From here you will transfer to your speedboat and cruise to Baros, your home for the next four nights.

Days 13, 14 and 15 – The Maldives

Enjoy three full days at leisure relaxing in the Maldives.

Day 15 – Fly Home

Transfer to Male airport by speedboat to catch your flight home.
